Katie Minor works at the University of Minnesota. She has been involved in the discovery of the mutation that causes EIC (exercise induced collapse) in Labrador Retrievers, and recently the development of a DNA test for mutation. They have subsequently found this mutation in Curly Coat and Chesapeake Bay retrievers at significant levels. Both breeds also have EIC confirmed affected dogs. Because of this they are very interested in looking at the Flat-Coats, as they are a related breed. Katie has been in contact with Dave Bunde and through him Vicky Nickerson. They will be offering between 150-200 free tests for the EIC mutation to FCRs. The necessary submission form and swab will be available through Vicky at the Specialty.
